Midi/audio sync prob after sblive to audigy 2zs upgrade
Hi all - have just had to quickly buy new soundcard as main line-out on sblive gave up the ghost, after years of no probs. Bought Audigy 2zs, as thought this would not be too much of a shock for ageing AMDk6 450mhz running Win98se. (Am waiting for new pc music system.) Installed Audigy, using the creative forum's (independent) excellent set-up guide, and thought everything was ok. However, when running sequencer, the midi tracks are fine, while the audio slowly goes out of sync. Can anybody explain what's happening? Would not normally panic, and wait for new pc, but have a deadline to finish project for the Barmy Army !!
Seriously thinking of reinstalling sblive, and using the rear line-outs to monitor on - but line-in & mic will then not work. Also was hoping the Audigy ASIO drivers would let me do the final mix in Cubase. Did I mention the odd crackle & pop....? .....Aaaaaaargh!! Regards. |

ermmm...well my distaste for such cards is known here, and I will say no more besides they SUCK for real audio work (and yeah, I have no 'proof', rather trust the opinions of those gurus at Cubase.net), and your experiences seem to rather prove my point (or theirs I guess)...
anyways, maybe the following link for ASIO drivers for WDM cards (like your soundblaster) will help: http://www.asio4all.com/ as a note, I've found the 'cheap' M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 to be a great 'beginners' pro audio card, and the 1010 (with its most plentiful in/out capabilities) to be awesome... |

Thanks for reply Wozer - have had my eye on the M-Audio gear for a while now - putting together a new system from scratch is pretty daunting - the choices out there are now so huge......
ps - a mate of mine is really pushing me to go the Mac route...? |

as far as a Mac...well, I have heard good and bad things as far as audio apps are concerned..and have of course heard good and bad things re: PCs and audio apps..
what should probably be your driving concern is what software/samples are available for the mac platform...I would suggest doing some serious research into what you plan/desire to do with your machine and make your decision based upon that... more and more applications/sample libraries are becoming Mac compatible, and I'm sure in the future many more will be added, but I believe that the majority of stuff will always be in the favor of non Mac platforms, and because of this you need to 'plan for the future' and do your best to decide what type of audio work you plan to do... good luck |
