Music Won't Play!

I have windows XP installed on my computer. Up until a week ago everything was fine, but now music won't play on my computer.
Every time i try to listen to music on media player i get this message:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly".
If I try to play music on itunes my computer freezes, and I have to shut it down.

I've just tried installing a new version of directX, but that doesn't seem to have helped the problem.

Any help would be really appreciated.

in the device manager click on view at the top and show hidden devices
then check for any yellow alongside of anything
it sounds like the drivers need reinstalling

May be you casually delete audio driver?
I had same prodlem a couple weeks ago. But it was coz of OS. So that's why I reinstalled Wondows....:(
