No sound at all

My sound was working fine yesterday, and now it suddenly stopped. I checked the status of the sound devices and windows said they were all working properly.

When I try to open volume control, I get this error message:
There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware.

This program will now close.

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers yet? I've experienced the same problem a couple times, and a driver reinsall usually does the trick.

Computers are very strange sometimes. I popped a CD into mine and now the speakers are responding and working perfectly. Thanks for trying, Fox.

Should I try uninstalling the driver?

Yeah, I would uninstall and reinstall it. It's possible that it got messed up somehow.

well.. i guess i'm screwed, cause i got the same prob, and i cannot fix it. tried a billion different things now..
