determining sound card

i just got my dad's old work laptop and completely erased it. i am downloading all the drivers for the computer and i need a driver for my sound card but i don't know what kind of soundcard is in it. does anyone know how to determine what kind of sound card is in your computer?

If the laptop came with a recovery CD, the drivers should be on that. Otherwise, check the device manager for unknown devices to find out the name. Then get it from the manufacturers web site.

Sandra Lite or Everest will tell you all your hardware details and provide links to the latest drivers.

I would suggest getting the drivers from the manufacturer of the laptop's web site. There may be some chipset drivers you won't be able to find anywhere else. There also may be special utilities and other good stuff!
