Hardware Mode in Video Games
Right, well, I've got $100 bucks to maybe spend on a new sound card, but first I would like some questions answered, if you would please....
What specifically are the benefits of running hardware mode rather than software? From what little I understand (not much of an audiophile, sorry), with some cards, the sound quality will be better than software, and it takes stress off of the CPU. Right now I've got a SoundBlaster Live! Value card, and I run all games in software audio (the few times I've tried hardware, the quality will be terrible, like I'm in an extremely deep chasm, incredibly echoey). If I were to upgrade to an Audigy 2, would I see a massive improvement in my gaming experience running in hardware mode (my CPU is an A64 3500+ @ stock if it makes any difference)? Is it generally worth it? |
