Strange AC97 sound problem =\
My codecs all decided to randomly die one day, so to fix my problem I uninstalled Winamp, VLC media player, DivX, iTunes and Quicktime. In addition to this, I uninstalled Windows media player which I had not upgraded since I got XP.
I think doing this affected my windows in some way, and I'm not sure what to do now as it's such a strange problem. Basically, any sounds run by windows will not play. Games and Winamp, and video files a l play with perfect sound, but anything else such as firefox or .swf files do not. When I go to the "sounds" menu, all of the slots are filled up with codecs as they should be - My current codec is the AC'97 one which came on my mobo disc. I'm not sure how exactly to uninstall this, so instead of doing so i simply ran the installer - both a downloaded one and the one from my mobo disc, but that has fixed nothing. The program that appears with my audio driver may be something to do with this, although I personally doubt it since the sound tests etc all work, and after a reecent reinstall, it has all default options set which has worked perfectly for me in the past many times. ![]() ^ Screenshot of it. In case it was the lack of WMP that was hurting my PC, I installed a fresh version 10, which works although it has not helped my problem other than that. The "sounds" menu is also being wierd. Screenshots: I'm really not sure what to do. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers multiple times, using the latest version from the AC97 site, the one from my mobo disc which worked fine previously, and a custom updated one from my mobo's site. The sound device itself is an integrated soundcard on an A8N-SLi SE ASUS motherboard. What should I try next? I've done virus scans etc to no avail. Thanks :D --jisatsu |
