reformatted my hard drive...now there is no sound

subject says it all. I just "restored" my copy of XP to the original factory settings, and now I can't get any sound.

I downloaded the drivers from Dell, but still no joy.

any ideas?

If you go to start run type sndvol32, does the volume control come up? make sure your speakers are plugged in the correct port, try playing an audio file and plug your speakers in all of the ports until you get sound, whats the model of your computer, after u installed the drivers did it prompt you to restart?..alot of questions i know ;)

hi,

yes the volume controls come up.

I only have one port to try - the headphone jack.

the speakers work, b/c I plug my ipod into the jack, and they work fine.

and yeah, I had to do a reboot

oh and this is a Dell 9100, XPMCE

In Control Panel, under Sounds and Audio Devices is there anything listed? Also look in the Device Manager for a yellow question mark or exclamation point, reply back your findings
