Microphone not working
I've been having some trouble with a microphone I recently purchased; it is not recognized when I plug it in and it doesn't work. It's a headset, and the headphones work fine, but the microphone just will not work. I've set the input to "Microphone" and still nothing. Can anyone help me out? I've tried a few other things but nothing is working.

Hi surge, and welcome to TSF!
What other things have you tried? Does the mic work on another computer? What programs have you tried it with? This may seem silly, but is it plugged into the pink jack?

Yes it's plugged into the pink jack, and I've tried messing with my sound options a little. Sound and Audio devices > sound recording / audio recording, only options are my sound card and "modem line 0" or something. I can't test on another computer, but there's no reason it shouldn't work as it's brand new. I've tried it with Sound Recorder, Ventrilo and TeamSpeak.

I am uploading an image. Right click on the volume icon in the task bar and select open volume control. Go to options > properties. Select your sound card, and the select the recording dot. Make sure microphone is checked. Once it is, click OK. You should now see the recording volume control. Make sure the mic volume is reasonably high and unmute it. See if that helps.

I would still see if you can test the mic on another computer, if a friend will let you try on his/her. Many computers have front mic jacks. It could still be a faulty mic.
Actually, does your computer have a front mic jack as well as a rear one? Have you tried both?
