EEK! OMG Help... My soundcards wont show up in Audio devices

Ok here's the situation. I left the house for a night on the town with my friends and foolishly allowed the little sister to use my computer to use msn messenger.

When i returned the nxt morning i sat down at my desk, opened Winamp and played a song. Thats as far as i got.

"Bad DirectSound Driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code:88780078"

Ive never had this error before but i knew what it was. I proceeded to device manager and all of my sound cards where flagged up with an exclimation mark. So i uninstalled them. Got the latest drivers from the sites to make sure, then re-installed. They all installed no problem, restarted the pc for good measure.

Checked device manager first off, to make sure they wernt flagged up again. Everything was cool so i went to play a song.

"Bad DirectSound Driver. Please ... Error code:88780078"

So logically i thoughy, maybe the device jst isnt slected. So i opened Sounds and Audio devices.

Every drop down box sais 'No Playback/recording/MIDI Playback Devices Detected'... ***

So i went back to device manager.. Lo n behold.. there they are, all nice and properly installed.

Im totally stuck. Any advice any 1 can give me is much appreciated. I do everyhting on my PC.. no music n movies and other generic sound is driving me mad.

Thanks again

Jamie

see if this applies to the sound problem
http://www.techsupportforum.com/arch...p/t-19110.html
if it does'nt
uninstall the sound card from the device manager
reboot tapping f8 and choose safe mode
disable a/virus
reinstall your sound drivers and reboot
