What sound card?

Hi all,

I have a built in sound card realtec ac97. I want to upgrade to something better that I can use for reasonable recording. Can anyone advise me on what card to go for? I'm not sure if it matters but my processor is an amd64 3000+.

Thanks

Mack

Hi Mack,
What is your budget? The onboard sound cards are getting pretty good these days. But if you want something more, a creative sound card would be good. This is a good one:

Also, some good recording/editing software is NCH WavePad. There is a freeware version that works just as well as the pay version in my opinion. It can be found here:

Click on the "Download WavePad" link at the right for the free version.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your reply. Sorry I couldn't bet back to you sooner.

I have about 100euro which is I think around is $100. The reason I thought my onboard sound was not too good was because when I record I get a jerky sound.

I also tried to record straight from my video camera and it was the same. Having said that the video was jerky also (Radeon 99500). Could it be a connected problem? I guess its hard to tell. Anyway I was hoping to get better sound anyway so it's not a big deal to get a new card and find im still in the same boat so to speak.?

Mack

Sounds like it could be a problem with the software, have you tried recording with different software?

Hi matt,

Can you suggest reasonably priced software with possibly video capability.

Thanks again

Hi Mack,
When you were recording video, were you using a TV tuner? When you were recording sound, wwere you using the audio inputs of the TV tuner or the line in of the sound card?
