Realtek AC'97 - Not recognized
Here's my problem - God bless anybody who can help me.
I'm a sound guy, I have a Mackie 1202 sitting on my desk. That's what makes it all the more embarassing to have no idea what the hell to do. My realtek AC'97 has worked fine for years, and now is not being recognized. I can take a look through my sounds and audio devices via control panel and it says there is no audio device! Preposterous! It then contradicts itself when, as I hit the hardware tab, I see my soundcard is installed and working properly. I've enabled and disabled and enabled it time and time again, rebooted, even tried my External USB sound card. It won't recognize any of them, but it says they're installed and working properly accordingly on the hardware tab! Any help in restoring usefulness would be greatfully appreciated. ~HF |

Hi and welcome to the forum!
What are you trying to send the sound to? Speakers, a recording device, headphones? I'm sure you have, but make sure that device is turned on and loud enough so you can hear it. Also, make sure that you have your speakers or whatnot plugged into the lineout plug. If it's color coated, this should be the green one. Again, this is probably stuff you have already done, but I just want to rule out the obvious first. Also, please post your computer specs. |

K you could try a format and install the latest drivers that way the only problem could be hardware... or you could uninstall the drivers for all your sound parts then get (Driver Cleaner Pro) do a clean in safe mode then install the latest drivers from online...
It’s best to download the drivers before uninstalling drivers and formatting os... May I ask is there any thing big that has happened to your pc like blue screens? Crashing with looping sounds... stuff liek that?? All so have the onboardsound on in the bios before trying any off this with no other soundcards/devises plugged in...

Actually, I defragmented both m harrddrived, ran a virus scan, turned the computer off, on and re-enabled the device and both cards got recognized. But thanks! It was probably one of those 24 viruses that was making my internet act up as well (Wireless network card wasn't recognized either, just a short time later)

Go to the hardware tab where it says the sound card is installed and working properly. Uninstall the driver by clicking uninstall, then use your motherboard CD to reinstall it.
