DvD Drive Not Recognizing DvDs

I have a memorex dvd+/-DLRWL1 F17 that lists itself as a DVD/CD-ROM drive. Even says DVD and DVD-RW on the front. However, it does not recognize DVDs at all, whether they are movie DVDs that have been bought, or data stored on dvds (such as elder scrolls IV: oblivion). I couldnt find any information or help anywhere else so, hoping something can be done here.
