My driver isn't reading my CD's

My driver isn't reading my CD's.I have two the top one is labeled DVD ROM and Compact Disk and the bottom one is labeled Compact Disk rewrittable high speed. For some reason the top one no longer reads and disks at all like before it could play video games and music and so on and now nothin it just says "Please insert a disk into drive D: because of it I can no loger copy disks and so forth so tell me what i can do about it please if u need aditional info on it then let me know

Welcome to TSF

Try deleting the IDE channel that the drive resides on, from within 'device manager' and restart your system. WinXP will redetect the drive and reinstall the IDE drivers. This has been known to resolve this issue in some cases.

its not going to mess up anything else with my computer is it?
