DVDRW Problems

I recently installed a 2nd optical drive (liteon dvdrw) as my main one was acting up, it worked good...but ran into some problems.

While making backups of my home movies on DVD-R it takes REALLY long to encode on the new one, but yet when i go to the old one it's back to speed.

I have all the jumpers set, the 2nd one is set to slave, the first one is set to master (i think)

firmware is up to date as well

check that you have dma enabled on the drive

Yes, ultra dma enabled.

are you using an 80 wire eide cable,the newer dvd require the 80 wire instead of the old 40 wire to operate at full speed

I'm using the supplied one that came with the comp

then it is most likely a 40 wire,i think the 80 requirement came with the 16x drives,at least that was when i first noticed it

Can i buy a new one and use it on my mobo and work the same as the old 40 one then?

yes
they are cheap,so if it is'nt the cause you will only be out a couple of dollars
