Today I tried to use my dvd RW drive to copy some files onto a blank DVD, but whenever I dragged a file into the window, an error message appeared saying that there was an error in copying that particular file. It turns out that my blank disk was displayed as having:

Free space: 0 bytes
Used space: 0 bytes

This has never happened to me before. I tried multiple disks from two brand name manufacturers and encountered the same exact problem.

However, when I use a DVD burning software like nero, the blank disks are recognized and can be used to burn entire DVD's. It is only when I try to drag single files directly onto a blank disk that I encounter a problem.

The disk will need to be formatted before you can drag files onto it. The nero software does it automatically when using it to copy files.

you might want to use cd-r disks for files...their very cheap.
