HELP with DVD burner acting up

Hey all, I have been a long time viewer and finally got around to signing up.

Here is my problem. I have been using my burner for years, no trouble, and suddenly it stopped reading DVD movies, real or backups. It just keeps spinning and then my computer freezes. For software or data discs it works fine. I went into the Hardware devices and noticed that it has my DVD burner listed as well as some AXC CD/DVD-ROM... My DVD burner has a Region inputed (Region 1) but on the AXC CD/DVD-ROM it has "None Selected" for Region (could this be a problem).

Specs:
DVD Burner - Pioneer 106D - DVD-+R/RW CD
AMD 2800+
1G RAM
80G HD
Running Windows XP

Also, I have noticed that when I now run Symantec Virus scan, it hangs up on this file scecli.dll and will not continue.
and.... When I shutdown computer, it says Ending Program and the program is saimonMainWindows - I have never seen this before.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks
