Can't Burn CD's

My CD-RW will read CD's, but when I put in a blank disk none of my programs recognize it as a drive letter. I tried to disable and then enable, restart, even tried to download a driver, but got nothing. Any ideas??

I am trying to use Roxio Easy CD Creator, or the Windows XP CD burning wizard, neither will work.

Thanks in Advance,
brett

@ brett.knutson
Try deleting the IDE channel that the drive resides on, from within 'device manager' and restart your system. WinXP will redetect the drive and reinstall the IDE drivers. This has been known to resolve this issue in some cases.

If that fails, try removing all your burning software and reinstall just one. Disable the Windows CD burning software.

If that does not help, post a Nero Infotool output. Run the tool, then click the diskette icon in the infotool toolbar and save as a .txt file, making sure all 8 boxes are checked. Attach to post using the 'manage attachments' button in the 'go advanced' reply window. Please do not cut-and-paste it into your post as it is a long file.

Keep us posted with your progress

In 'control panel>system>hardware>device manager' under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers", right click on 'Primary IDE..." or "Secondary IDE..."(whichever is the channel your CD-RW drive resides on) and choose 'uninstall', then reboot your computer. Windows will redetect your drive and reinstall your drivers. Hopefully it will restore your drive to its proper functioning state.
