XP Doesn't Recognise MP3 Player

I have a 1gig MPMAN MPKI 1000 MP3 player, which also functions as a flash memory storage drive.

When I first got it, XP detected it perfectly, however this week, during the transfer of a file to the player, it cut off. Now it no longer detects that the player has been plugged in to the USB port.

Ive checked all my other USB devices(joystick, logitech headset) and all six ports function normally with those, just not the MP3 player. It's frustrating the hell out of me, as it started right after I ordered a new pair of classy headphones, and the drive is currently full of college work rather than music.

The player itself works fine(it plays the single folder of MP3s left on it without problems), I just cant get it detected. I tried uninstalling SP2 as advised by the manufacturer's website(supposedly could cause conflicts), but that just screwed up my PC and resulted in two wasted hours in Safe Mode, so any suggestions on how to get the drive working again would be much appreciated.

No, the device manager shows nothing at all to do with it. It's very odd, I plug it in and literally nothing happens, it's as if the drive isnt even there, yet there appears nothing wrong with either my computer's USB ports or the MP3 player.

I cant even flash the firmware on the MP3 because to do that...I need to establish a connection to my computer
