I just brought a sony cdrw 523252 and cannot install it properly need of assistance.

Hello folks, I have an AMD system and a 2800 AMD CPU. I Just brought a sony cdrw 523252 and tried to install it but I only get the control prompt in XP. It says:

Verifying DMI Pool Data.... PRI Master Disk: HDD S.M.A.R.T capability disabled.... I don't have anything under slave and master driver only my primary harddrive which is HDD.

Can anyone explain why my PC isn't reading the new hardware and why I cannot get out of the command prompt on XP. Thank You for any information.

We need to know how you have it connected.
It sounds like the jumper on the back of the
drive is not set properly for the way it is
connected.

Sorry for the delay in responding back. Had some form of network failure and prior to that, trying to figure out CMOS and BIOS. The new CDRW, floppy, and harddrive are connected. The Master is on the motherboard and on the new CDRW. The slave is on the harddrive. The other major cable is on the motherboard and on the floppy drive. Sorry for not knowing the computer names for the cables.

Drive A: 1.44 M 3.5 in
Drive B: none (auto)
Floppy 3 mode: disabled ( they all have in. numbers and I have no idea which number is for new cdrw)

First boot device: SCSI
Second boot device: HDDO
Third boot device: CDROM
Other Enabled

S.M.A.R.T capability Enabled

PnP/PCI configurations disabled (tried to turn them on and save but it comes back disabled once I go back into CMOS)

Tried to "fail safe" defaults
but nothing worked.

I am assuming you are using an ide setup.
Set the jumper on the back of the hard drive to master
and connect it to the end of the data cable.

It is better to hook the CDROM to the secondary IDE channel
if you have another cable.
If you do,set the jumper on the CDROM to master and
connect it to the end of the cable.

If you don't,set the jumper to slave and connect it to
the middle connector on the cable the hard drive is on.

Set the boot order to floppy,HDD,CDROM.

If you are trying to use a SATA drive, post back here and
I will give different instructions when I can.
