If you can I would try replacing the drives with something you know works and if that unit doesn't work as well then there is something wrong with the system or some problem with configuration.

i came to the removable media forum because i am experiencing similar issues. i have noticed many others seem to be having strange trouble with cd-rom and dvd all of a sudden.
i have two machines that have not been reading correctly for a few weeks. a total of three drives that are messing with my head. the bottom line on one is that, like others have said, it recognizes a samsung dvd-rom in the device manager but in windows it is a cd-rom. it will not recognize dvd. it will regognize data disks. it is the master on the second ide channel. it has been a slave on both the first and second channel and now a master on the second. the other issues are with cd-r drives. i have two asus cd-r drives and it wrote files to disk on 1 out of 5 attempts. i guess this could all be coincidence but it is all happening at once on two machines. it just will not recognize anything but a data disk. on many of my attempts i have had "my computer" stop responding. just thought i would toss that in. |
