NEC DVD RW ND-3250AW troubles

Hi,
I bought a NEC DVD RW ND-3250 drive about three months ago and it worked great. Several weeks ago it started to have trouble reading some of the dvd movies i tried to play(regular dvd movies). I had cyberlink powerdvd 5.0 for the playback software. I updated the drivers for the deck, no help, then flashed the firmware to nec's latest, still no help, then uninstalled the cyberlink and tried VLC, still no help. I also have cleaned the deck and uninstalled it and re-installed it all to no avail. Contacted nec support and they blamed it on software saying i should be using Nero OEM 6, went and got it and installed it, problem is now worse than ever. The deck plays cd-rom games fine as well as cds, just the dvds not working correctly. The deck will randomly play an occasional disc but mostly it just spins up and for some reason fails to read the disc, im at a loss and am ready to toss it in the dumpster and go buy new. Anyone got and ideas whats up with this or any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

@ g640mn
Welcome to TSF
When you 'uninstalled and reinstalled' the drive, did you physically unplug the power and data cables from the rear of the drive, then power up your system, then power down again and replug the cables and power up again? Try that if not.

If you did do that, then can you try the drive in another system to see if it has the same problems? If not, do any of the DVD functions perform poorly, like burning disks or reading burnt disks? A dvd-rw drive has a laser for reading/writing CDs and a separate laser for reading/writing DVDs and your DVD laser may be going bad...that is why I ask the last questions.
