Connecting two ODDs

Hi

I have a CDRW and a DVDRW each currently connected to separate IDE Channels using the round IDE cables (my HDDs are SATA Drives on the 2 Serials Ports).

These cables (both are the 2 device type for master and slave), together with the FDD round cable make the inside of my case rather cluttered. I have considered replacing these two IDE cables with two single device cables but cannot find a supplier here in the UK.

My question is, in the interests of better airflow and less clutter in the case, would I lose much, if anything, in the way of ODD performance if I were to dispense with one of the IDE cables and connect them as master and slave to the first IDE Channel. I rarely use both devices together - just the occasional disc copy - but do use both; the slower DVDRW for DVDs and the much faster CDRW for CDs.

Comments would be most welcome.

Hi EricG,

The answer is that you would not know the difference if you connected them both up to the same cable. Therefore, if that reduces clutter, then go for it.

Thanks. That's what I thought.
