DVD-ROM (D:) Not showing up or working

My E drive works fine but my DVD or D: drive does not show up on My Computer, system, or anywhere. I ran a search and it led me to this site. It may have disappeared after a system restore due to a home page capture spyware/virus.
Please excuse my lack of technical acumen. I know very little but would like to be able to play DVD's and/or burn cd'.

TIA
Murph

Re: DVD-ROM (D:) Not showing up or working

I just installed a performance edition of vista ultimate, and I can use the DVD roms just fine when I install vista, but as soon as I get to vista, it doesn't show either rom.... can only see the HDDs.
