Optical Drives Crashing Machine
I am running XP. I recently upgraded my motherboard and installed a new SATA hard drive. My machine was working fine for a couple of months and then, for no apparent reason, the CDRW and DVD-ROM started causing problems.
When I try to access either of the drives the machine freezes and requires a hard reboot. Sometimes the drives don't appear in Explorer at all. The drives are spinning and the computer recognises the disc (shows the icon). According to both BIOS and device manager the drives are both happy and working. I have checked the drivers - they are latest and best I have changed the jumper settings - no effect I have switched from IDE 1 to 2 and back - no effect I have run Avast and McAffee virus scans - nothing found I have unistalled the drives and re-recognising them had no effect. I am stuck... Thanks |
