Your drive may be dead but you can try a few things. You can try the drive in another system to see if it exhibits the same behavior. You can try deleting the IDE channel the drive resides on from within 'device manager' and reboot your system. That will allow WinXP to redetect the drive and reinstall the drivers. You can also try flashing your firmware to the latest version. If you use any kind of packet-writing software, like InCD, try removing it. You can also go 'start>all programs>administrative tools>component services> services(local)>(then double-click on) IMAPI CD-Burning. Then select either 'manual' or 'disable' from the 'startup type' menu. Restart your system and try a burn. If all these fail to resolve your problem, post a Nero Infotool output. Run the tool, then click the diskette icon in the infotool toolbar and save as a .txt file, making sure all 8 boxes are checked. Attach to post using the 'manage attachments' button in the 'go advanced' reply window. Also to clarify, when you say your drive won't read any kind of disc, does this include pre-recorded dvds and home-burnt dvds and blank dvds and the same for all cds? EDIT: after looking around for firmware for your drive, I see that the newest version is from 12/2002 . That is quite old(as is your drive) and you may have problems burning most of the media available today. Since DVD-RW drives are pretty inexpensive today, you may be better served by just investing in a new one if you can't fix yours easily. My personal favorite drive is the BenQ 1620 /EDIT
