USB Issues
Never thought I'd be posting on here because I handle everyone elses problems, but came across one that has me stumped. My laptop was in the process of installing SuSE Linux 9.2 as a dual boot OS when it locked up on me. Rebooted and couldn't recover the install. No problem, will reinstall the WHOLE thing, XP included. Recovered the PC and tried to install my drivers fom my external HD but the comp wouldn't recognize it. I unplugged the drive and plugged it back in and my system froze. Rebooted and tried a thumb-drive instead and it froze. Figured maybe it was the interruption of the SuSE install and tried to reinstall it hoping this would fix the problem. SuSE installed without a hitch and doesn't lock up when I plug in my devices, but it won't recognize them. Did it fry my USB controller? When I go to the device manager it says the ports are fine until something gets plugged in. I've un-installed the drivers and rebooted with the same results. Any help appreciated.

you said youve un-installed the drivers, correct? now are these the chipset drivers? if not, then you can try going to the manufacturer's website of your laptop and download the chipset drivers.
install it and see if this helps bring back your usb ports. good luck |
