DVD Drive problem.
Hey, I have a problem with my DVD drive.
Well I'm halfway through a problem, but I'm going to explain the first half just incase it is some how relivant, so sorry for the extra reading. My DVD drive had been showing two drives under device manager instead of just one (as shown here). If I tried to put a CD in it then the light would come on and continuously flash, whilst it refused to do anything. I could not even open it without rebooting the computer and pressing the open button as the computer booted. Disabling either of the device managers gave an error message (as shown here ). However the DVD drive allowed me to open it and take the CD back out, and the light did not continuously flash. It was then suggested that the SISC device was a vertual drive created by alcohol 120% (cd burning program). I uninstalled this due to not needing it anymore, so now I am left with one drive showing. However, now whenever I put a CD into the DVD drive the light comes on instantly and will not let me open it unless I press it just as the computer is loading the BIOS. This is not an Windows problem, due to the fact it occurs outside windows also. Anyone have any ideas? Tomorrow I will be taking it appart to get a good look, cause I think it must be come kind of problem with the drive itself, unless you have any other suggestions? Sorry if I've missed anything out but it is late here and I am tired. Thanks very much. Last edited by Mark07; 11-18-2005 at 06:07 PM. |

Welcome to TSF There are lots of things you can try to get your DVD drive back to functioning properly. The first thing I will suggest is that you delete the IDE channel that the drive resides on, from within 'device manager' and restart your computer. That will allow Windows to redetect the drive and reinstall the drivers for it. This has been known to solve similar problems in the past. Keep us posted with your progress. If this does not work, post back and we'll try something else. If you post back, tell us what other burning programs you have installed.

I forgot to mention that I had already tried that, however that was when I had the two devices instaled due to alcohol 120. As alcohol is now gone I thought I might as well give it another go. So after rebooting and the computer reloading the device drivers, everything worked. I had to dig out my copy of Power DVD cause I reformatted the other day, and I don't usually use my PC for DVDs, and now everything is fine.
The only CD burning program I can find installed it "Easy BD creator 5 Basic". This is due to the recent reformat, and the program is pretty useless, I doubt that is causing a problem. The only thing that concerns me is that the flashing light of the CD player going on forever and not allowing me to open up has happened before, and this was before alcohol 120 was installed. I'm about to go and test it outside windows by trying to run a linux live CD, and see how that goes. Thanks for your help. Last edited by Mark07; 11-19-2005 at 04:01 AM. |
