What is the ManufacturerIDentification of the media you are using? It is different than the name brand of the media. You can use your Nero software to discover this. Go to 'Nero>toolkit>CD-DVDSpeed'. In CD-DVDSpeed, there should be a 'Disc Info' tab or submenu selection, depending on your version. Open that and the MID should be stated for the disc in the drive. Your Gateway DVD burner is for 4x+R media or 2X-R media. There is not much of that media available today. I looked at the site and did not see any firmware for your drive. This might mean that the firmware may be so old that doesn't recognize the media you are using and will default to a generic burn strategy which rarely produces good results. I would not expect good things from this burner.
However, we may be able to get it to work. I would recommend removing all your burning programs including Nero using the Nero General Clean Tool and the Nero Clean Pack. Then choose one to use. I like Nero best. Reinstall the one you want to use. Try another burn.
If you are burning data for backup that you backup often, you might want to consider using rewriteable media(+/-RW) as that will save on failed discs and they also burn at the slower speeds.

Keep us posted with your progress.
