Confused USB external drive always needs to be reformatted

I have a Plumax External case (PM-350U2-LCS) that whenever I move the drive from one system to another the new system tells me I have to reformat the drive.

I have used a couple of different drives in it with the same results. The present drive is a Maxtor 40 GB drive formatted in FAT32. The chip in the case is a Cypress CY7C68300-56PVC. There appears to be no Plumax website (if anyone knows of it I would appreciate it!) and the exact part does not appear on the Cypress website.

Any ideas?

Thumbs Up

Yes the maxtor is in the external case.

The jumper setting was originally set to Master with Slave.

I moved it to Single drive and had the same results.

I moved it to CS - cable select that seems to do the trick. I can now see it on y XP and the Win ME system I have here.

Never eventhought that would have been an issue.

Thanks,

Larry
