Pioneer DVR-109 problems

I've installed this drive on XP sp2. Although the computer recognizes the drive, I can't get it to play or record cd/dvd's. The drive shows up on my computer and I can see what title DVD is in there but it won't play it. I did see a I/O Device error at one point but don't know how to fix that.

I've tried installing the latest firmware but as it's loading It says failed to move to normal mode and then closes.

Please help...

print the whole thread off so you have it there to refer to
what they are saying is to extract the file to a folder on your h/d
then open the folder and delete the file UPGR109.exe
then carry on with the instructions they give

I copied the thread below that I have been referring to.

I extracted the file DVRupdate 0.9.exe from the same folder as 109v1.50 firmware and clicked start and got the following message:

Step 1: to kernel mode, Error, because Scsi error with ASC:24 ASCQ:0!

What do I do now?

From the Pioneer 109 forum

Download the 109v1.50 firmware from http://www.pioneer-eur.com/eur/down...109_FW150EU.EXE

Extract the files and delete the Pioneer upgrade (UPGR109.exe). You will be left with 2 files, R9100009.150 & R9100109.150.

Download DVRupdate 0.9 from
http://www.dvd-recordable.org/wwwim...date%20v0.9.zip

Extract DVRupdate 0.9.exe to the same folder as the 2 files above.

Run DVRupdate 0.9 and do the following:
1) Select your drive from the 'Device' drop down box
2) Select the Kernel file by clicking the folder icon to the right of the 'Kernel' field. The correct file will automatically be selected if you have run DVRupdate from the same folder as the R9100009.150 & R9100109.150 files.
3) Select the Normal file by clicking the folder icon to the right of the 'Normal' field. The correct file will automatically be selected if you have run DVRupdate from the same folder as the R9100009.150 & R9100109.150 files.
4) Click 'Start'
The operation takes about a minute. Exit DVRupdate.

Reboot.
Download the A09v1.58 firmware from http://flashman.rpc1.com/Firmware/P...A09_FW158EU.EXE
Extract the files and delete the Pioneer upgrade (UPGA09.exe). You will be left with 2 files, R9143009.158 & R9143109.158

Download DVRupdate 0.9 from
http://flashman.rpc1.org/Firmware/P...update_v0.9.zip

Extract DVRupdate 0.9.exe to the same folder as the 2 files above.

Run DVRupdate 0.9 and do the following:
1) Select your drive from the 'Device' drop down box
2) Select the Kernel file by clicking the folder icon to the right of the 'Kernel' field. The correct file will automatically be selected if you have run DVRupdate from the same folder as the R9143009.158 & R9143109.158 files.
3) Select the Normal file by clicking the folder icon to the right of the 'Normal' field. The correct file will automatically be selected if you have run DVRupdate from the same folder as the R9143009.158 & R9143109.158 files.
4) Click 'Start'
The operation takes about a minute. Exit DVRupdate.

I rebooted at this point, but it may not be necessary. Some people have reported drive recognition issues that were cured by a reboot.

After the reboot check that your drive is operating in DMA mode UDMA4 READ HERE

when you extract the files to a folder, you then click on that folder to open it
in it you should see 3 files, you then right click on this one UPGR109.exe and choose
delete leaving you with the 2 files
R9100009.150 & R9100109.150
you then d/l DVRupdate 0.9.exe and extract it to the same folder as the 2 files above
Run DVRupdate 0.9 and do the following:1) Select your drive from the 'Device' drop down box2) Select the Kernel file by clicking the folder icon to the right of the 'Kernel' field. The correct file will automatically be selected if you have run DVRupdate from the same folder as the R9100009.150 & R9100109.150 files.3) Select the Normal file by clicking the folder icon to the right of the 'Normal' field. The correct file will automatically be selected if you have run DVRupdate from the same folder as the R9100009.150 & R9100109.150 files.4) Click 'Start'The operation takes about a minute. Exit DVRupdate.
and move on to the next step

doing this is not following the instructions and so you get the error

I extracted the file DVRupdate 0.9.exe from the same folder as 109v1.50 firmware and clicked start and got the following message:
