Flash drive works only on laptop

Hey guys,

I have a 4 gig PNY flash drive as well as an 8gig (don't know the brand). My issue is that both drives will work on my IBM laptop, but my Dell desktop doesn't even know when the drive is inserted into the usb port. I can't even search and find it. Any ideas...I really need to move info from desktop to laptop...
Thanks

Re: Flash drive works only on laptop

Does the Dell see either or the drives? Could be a USB port issue on the Dell or simply a driver issue.

On the Dell, go into Device manager and Uninstall everything that refers to USB. Windows will reinstall on reboot.

Thanks for the reply. Odd thing is that my son has a couple flash drives also...I know this sounds strange but his drives are immediately recognized on the Dell desktop system but my IBM laptop won't recognize them...It seems as though if the drive will work on my laptop they won't work on the desktop system and if they work on the desktop, they won't on the laptop! I've worked with computers for years and my son has an IT degree...we're stumped. If you have any other ideas, please share them...I'll try just about anything at this point!
Thanks,
Jeff
