Disk Drive won't open when empty

Hey guys,

I've been having this problem for a while. Whenever my DVD drive is empty (that is no disk or anything is in there) I can't open the drive using the physical eject button or the windows "eject" option. However, when there's something in the drive, I can eject the cd/dvd just fine. It hasn't really bothered me much up until tonight when I had to fix my boot manager to dual boot 7 and xp (side note that's not really necessary). What I would have to do in orer to get the drive to open is to use a paper clip and pry it open using the small hole on the face of the drive. Anyways, what can I do to get this to work properly (i.e. have the drive open with or without a disk by physically pressing the button)? Is there some sort of driver I would need to get or what? Also this is occurs for both operating systems.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Disk Drive won't open when empty

You can try cleaning the small gears that operated the drive door but most likely it's time for a replacement.
