DVD drive recognizes disc but wont play!

I haven't used my DVD Drive in awhile and now its acting strange. When I put in a CD or a DVD-R it recognizes what it is (CD or DVD-R) and displays it on the dvd drive icon in the Computer folder but it wont let me access the disc and when I click on it it says that there is no disc.

What could be the problem?

Alright. It can read Audio CDs to some extent. When I put one in it autoplays in my media player... I can see the track list but when I try to play a song it freezes the media player and wont play. I can eject the disc and the media player resumes functionality.

Try deleting upper filter and lower filter in the registry but be careful as registry is the back bone of windows. A small mistake can crash the computer.

Sounds like a failing drive.
