Asus DRW-1608P DVD Rom

I have a Asus DVD ROM that only read DVD's but cannot write a DVD.
I tied to install the latest Filmware for this DVD ROM but get the following message " Failed to move to the normal mode "
Please help.

Where did you get the firmware update? What Version is the update you attempted to Flash to?

I downloaded the filmware from the Asus website.
This is the name of the download, "ASUS_DRW-1608P_FW157EU"
The version seems to be 1.17 (2005/02/03)

That's an old firmware. Latest version is 1.59
