USB Speakers Issue
I have been having this issue for about a year now, and cannot get it solved. I purchased the Bose Companion 5 speaker system about a year ago, and if you are not aware of them, they plug into the computer USB port, and have a sound card already built into them. I am able to plug them in and get them working, but the issue arises when I try to open a program, such as Mozilla, or even just by clicking the Start menu. Whenever I attempt to do this, the speakers become very distorted and "scratchy," and will soon stop play sound completely. I will then have to close out of the program that was playing the sound, unplug the speakers, plug them back in, and they will work again until I open another program, or even browse to a new website. As you could imagine, it is extremely frustrating. The speakers are not the issue, as I have tested them out on various other computers and they work perfectly. The computer that I am currently working on is a Dell laptop Inspiron E1705, and I am currently running windows xp. I think this is a problem with Dells, or at least with this particular Dell model, as my brother has the exact same computer (same hardware/programs) and has the same issue. I have contacted Dell about this issue and they ran me through some software changes (which did absolutely nothing) and eventually replaced my entire motherboard on two separate occasions. After the second motherboard swap, they pretty much told me that there was nothing else that they could do. All of my drivers are completely up to date, and I have tried every USB port on the computer with the exact same issue. Does anybody have any suggestions for me?
Please? |

Re: USB Speakers Issue
Do the speakers perform correctly on other laptops?
My first thought would be the laptop USB doesn't have enough power for them.

Re: USB Speakers Issue
You could try reloading the USB drivers. You may also want to uninstall and reinstall the speaker/sound card software (I assume there is some sort of software/drivers) and reinstall or check for an updated version. Aside from that, it sounds like a USB port issue as noted above.
