DVD audio is choppy UDMA problem?
Hi,
I haven't used my DVD drive to play DVDs for some time, but I've just noticed that when I do, the audio is choppy and skips, although the video itself is fine. I searched the web for solutions and it seems people with similar problems were directed to Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > Secondary IDE Channel > Properties > Advanced Settings. I found that my Device 0 Transfer Mode is set to 'DMA if available' instead of 'PIO only' which is fine, as this was often the problem for others, but although this is the correct setting, my Current Transfer Mode is 'Not Applicable' and greyed out. I believe this should say something like Ultra DMA Mode 5. Would you agree this is the problem, and if so, how do I go about fixing it? Thanks in advance. Device 0 Device Type: Auto Detection Transfer Mode: DMA if available Current Transfer Mode: Not Applicable Device 1 Device Type: Auto Detection Transfer Mode: DMA if available Current Transfer Mode: Not Applicable -- Windows XP Pro SP3 / P5N-E SLI Mobo / Nvidia 8500GT 1GB Graphics card Q6600 Quad Core 4x2.4Ghz / 4gb DDR2 800mhz RAM / 500gb SATA HDD / 750w PSU |

Re: DVD audio is choppy UDMA problem?
A dirty or damaged disc can cause DMA to revert to PIO.
I use to have a quick fix download but i can't locate it. I'll keep searching.

Re: DVD audio is choppy UDMA problem?
The settings don't say it has been reverted to PIO. It says 'Not Applicable' instead of 'Ultra DMA Mode 5'.
