[SOLVED] usb stopped working (don't see reason why)

Hello, my usb ports stopped working all of a sudden. I tried uninstalling them in device manager and it does nothing.

I noticed that if I do a system restore they begin working again, but then stop again. So I thought maybe it was some update which did it, because I remember that I did install some windows updates around the time when this happened.

So today I decided to reformat. After reformat I installed the Intel chipset drivers which include usb drivers I think. Anyway all I ever install is the intel chipset drivers that came on a cd with my motherboard. I also installed the sound drivers and my video card drivers. That is all. No other software, No windows updates yet.

And still the usb ports don't work. This happened all of a sudden and I see no reason for it.

Can you guys please help?

Have you checked in the BIOS that USB Power / Support is Enabled?

Re: usb stopped working (don't see reason why)

when removing from the device manager did you use this method

if you miss an entry it will not work

in the device manager click on view at the top and in the dropdown
show hidden devices
then uninstall all listed usb items
turn the computer off
unplug usb plugs
reboot twice
replug in the usb plugs

if this does not fix try a cmos reset

cmos reset
turn the computer off
remove the power lead from the back
take the side off
remove the cmos battery
move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2
reinsert the battery
put the side on
replug in the power lead
boot the computer

there can be 2 solder points you touch with a screwdriver
2 pins you touch with a screwdriver or use a jumper
a cmos clear switch or button
there will be a diagram and instructions in your manual

Re: usb stopped working (don't see reason why)

Resetting the cmos fixed it. Thanks. No clue why this would happen in the first place.
