DVD Writer not working!

Hi guys,

Am hoping you can help me. I've had this HP laptop for a few years, but have only needed to use the DVD writer now. I installed a free version of Nero Essentials to burn a DVD, but it just won't work.

Can someone help me? I'm not too computer savvy, so any help (and patience) will be appreciated!

The DVD burner that I have is: Pioneer DVDRW DVR-K17B (ID:0 HA:1)

When I try burning a DVD, I click on Data Burning and load up the files I want to burn. When I click "Burn", it says "Checking Disks", then it says "Star formatting disc before burning". It stays like this for a few minutes, and then it stops and gives me an error saying "Burning Failed" and it ejects the disc automatically. Nothing more, nothing less.

Anyone able to help?

The Nero error log file would be helpful.

What type of media are you using?

You could also try a different app such as ImgBurn (free).

So sorry Dogg, but where do you find the error log file? I've looked over but can't seem to find it?

I'm trying to burn some videos (avi's).

In the Nero folder or the Nero/core folder I believe...I can't recall exactly.

Sorry mate, I have no idea where or what kind of a file it is. Is it somewhere in here?

Try a different brand or type of disc.

I don't use Nero very often, so I don't recall where the error log is located. I thought it was in the Nero folder somewhere, it's just a text file.

Aside from that, what is the exact error you are receiving? If you are using DVD+/-R media and NOT RW media, it shouldn't be trying to format.
