DVD burning issues...

I have a Philips DVD-RAM SDVD8821 in my Acer Laptop. I got it for the burner, as I have spent time with different hard drive downloading home video, editing it, and posting it to you tube. I was using Pinnacle Ultimate Studio 11 for the process.. Worked great with first hard drive.

I had the Philips installed back this last May/June. I edited my daughters wedding video's, and managed to burn one DVD sucessfully. After that one disc, I can still edit, but it fails when time to burn. I have also had this burning issue with NERO, Windows Movie Maker. The only DVD's I can burn are with Kodak Camera program and I-Tunes. Of course I-tunes DVD can't play on DVD players and Kodak plays on puter, or DVD with Kodak capabilities.

I have attached a copy of the error message from NERO, if that might help.

Thanks

Re: DVD burning issues...

It's not getting to the burn stage, at least not in Nero:

########################################################################################
[08:44:39] DVDEngine ERROR
[08:44:39] DVDEngine cause: 128 (nmc_processing_exception)
[08:44:39] DVDEngine source: CNeroConvertManager::CreateConverter
[08:44:39] DVDEngine description: cannot find license
[08:44:39] DVDEngine ########################################################################################

It's failing on the conversion and appears you don't have a properly installed or registered version of Nero.

As an FYI, what you are attempting to do is multiple stages. You have your source material (in this case your edited home videos). To get those onto a DVD for use in a DVD player, there are essentially two parts: conversion and mastering.

Conversion is the process of transforming (converting) your source material into into a video and audio stream which meet DVD specs. For video, it's mpeg2 at a few fixed resolutions. For audio, it's typically LPCM.

Mastering is the process of getting DVD spec audio and video into files readable by a DVD player, and then burning them onto a DVD.
