TSST corp cd dvd TS-H552B not working

I have an E-Machine with this burner.The first year or so it worked fine,and suddenly quit.It plays some cd's but wont detect or load dvd;s or blanks for copying,load pictures of cd,s nada.Tried every brand,went thru every troubleshooter etc.Computer says its working fine but it obviously isnt!
I have spent time reading at websites and apparently many other people have had the same thing with this burner.Tried dnloading a new driver on and on.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem or can think of anything else I can try.
Can this be removed and replaced with a device that will work if there is no other solution?PC is pretty useless without it working.

The drive has most likely failed. It can easily be replaced.
I would suggest a LG or Lite-On brand for a replacement.
