DVD/CD Drive not working

Hi, I have an Inspiron 6000 with a NEC DVD +-RW ND-6500A drive. I am unable to load anything on the d drive, it does not show anything on disks (tried loads of them) and does not allow me to save to disk saying I do not have access, see your administrator (I am the only administrator on the home computer). WHen I try and write a file to the dvd it says that there is no disk in the drive so its i not reading it. Has anybody any idea what I should do? Tried uninstalling and going back to previous drive but no luck and it says nothing wrong with drive.

Thanks

Re: DVD/CD Drive not working

and welcome to the Forum

You can try a cleaner disc to see if that helps, but it sounds like the drive has reached the end of its' life and needs to be replaced

Re: DVD/CD Drive not working

Try uninstalling the drive in Device manager and Windows will reinstall it on reboot.
Try this: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_d...cd_dvd_fix.htm
I suspect a failed drive. Laptop optical drives are not high quality.
