how to reformat a memory stick

Hi, I am having trouble with the files on my 4gig mem stick.....I can look at the photos and documents, but I cannot access the music files.....I have tried to delete everything and it won't let me.....it's saying that is has write protection. I have tried to reformat it .... and I get told the same thing about write protection.
It does not have a switch anywhere on it to turn off the write protection.
What do I do next please ?

Help !
Bridget

Re: how to reformat a memory stick

Some sticks have their own software installed for working with the files. If yours has this software, try that first.

Otherwise, try an app like this: http://www.compuapps.com/Download/sw...swissknife.htm

And welcome to TSF!

if you write click on the mem stick and choose explore, can you see the music files ?

to format that i would use dban or killdisk - free versions.

Not to step on toes Dogg but the best way is using killdisk/dban for doing this (in my experience) there are many usb thumb drives that are exploited with hacks that will store hidden malicious code that are being used for theft of identity and what not. destroy the data to be sure.
