TSSTCorp DVD/CDRW stopped working

Hi. I have a problem with my above mentioned device. It used to work properly and was very reliable and then I got an ASUS DVD+RAM drive and I put the Asus as a secondary master and the TSSTCorp as a slave. This setup worked wonderfully for some long time. Then one day I took out the ASUS to use on a ASROCK motherboard and it didn't read the dvd's as fast and reliably as i know it could. So I removed it and replaced it with the TSSTCorp and the latter did not even work. It took three reboots for the motherboard's bios to recognize it but it did not read the dvd inside 'cause i wanted the motherboard to boot from the dvd as i set the boot order to boot from the dvd first. I replaced it back with the ASUS cause that at least could read the DVD inside. That is where the TSSTCorp stopped responding. I put the drives back in the original rig and then only the ASUS is working. The Bios can see the drives like it did before I removed them to be used on the ASROCK motherboard. They both appear in the device manager and all are or seem to be installed properly. Only the ASUS can see the dvd/cd's that i put inside but the TSSTCorp doesn't. When i put a dvd/cd inside and go to the drive in my computer it says...please insert a disk into drive E:. I then used it for Autoplay dvd/cd's only and they used to read but then not anymore. Under command prompt it says device not ready. And in the device manager after putting a disk in it, go to properties then to volumes then i make sure that there is a disk in the drive then click on populate and it displays no media under status. I have tested this drive in 5 machines so far and the results are the same. I don't know what is wrong...maybe it's hardware related i just don't know. I thought i try here before i pay some hard earned cash for some company to fix it for me. I had Daemon tools in the machine and I thought it was the culprit and uninstalled it but to no help. Any advice would be appreciated.

I also tried it on its own with no other dvd/cd rom drive but no help. I changed buses but since it is recognized that rules a faulty bus out. I even uninstalled it and re-installed but no help still.

I would like to ask a related question but am not sure if this is the correct thread or manner by which to do it, so please bear with me:

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop running Vista 32-bit and have used CyberLink Power2Go CD burner (http://www.cyberlink.com/products/po...iew_en_US.html) I think it's about one year old. It has worked well but does not work now no matter what I do. I have e-mailed their IT support and gotten no response after about a week. The CD/DVD burner works ok, since I can watch DVDs on laptop and burn DVDs using a different program.

I have a two part question: What can I do to get the CyberLink Power2Go program to work again? It won't burn CDs no matter what I do, no matter how I try to burn them. It also will not rip sound, either.

Is there another program that's free that I could download safely somewhere to enable me to burn CDs or isn't there some way to get Vista to burn CDs as well? If there is a way to use Vista to burn CDs, can you please give step-by-step instructions so I can try it?

I'm still a newbie in most of these issues, so thanks for your time and input.

Hi and thanks for the response. Well, I accept that. Nevertheless I'd like to know why or what went wrong. I know the drive can receive power and the rig can identify it how ever it cannot execute media inserted in it. So what went wrong? Was it the Daemon tools program or was there corruption of some kind? I don't mind binning the drive but I'd appreciate some peace of mind. Thanks, ;)

And, blackbag...There are 3 programs that I can recommend to you...1) BurnAware Free Edition at www.glorylogic.com, 2) CDBurnerXP...please google this one and 3)Get a computing magazine like PCFormat and take advantage of their cover DVD. They should have more that one freeware Cd burning software and a couple of shareware ones. Just scan the disk before using it no matter how reputable their disks are, scan them just to be totally on the safe side.

Thumb drives are pretty fragile and very susceptible to damage. The number one killer, that I am aware of, is unplugging them and not using the Remove hardware Safely feature.

I have XP Home SP 2. My tsst dvd/cd-rw use to read and write cd-r disk but now only cd-rw. when i put my blank cd-r disk in drive says no disk insert blank disk. My software says it supports both cd-r and cd-rw.

blesslot Registered User Join Date: May 2009 Location: South Africa Posts: 60 OS: Windows XP sp3	TSSTCorp DVD/CDRW stopped working Hi. I have a problem with my above mentioned device. It used to work properly and was very reliable and then I got an ASUS DVD+RAM drive and I put the Asus as a secondary master and the TSSTCorp as a slave. This setup worked wonderfully for some long time. Then one day I took out the ASUS to use on a ASROCK motherboard and it didn't read the dvd's as fast and reliably as i know it could. So I removed it and replaced it with the TSSTCorp and the latter did not even work. It took three reboots for the motherboard's bios to recognize it but it did not read the dvd inside 'cause i wanted the motherboard to boot from the dvd as i set the boot order to boot from the dvd first. I replaced it back with the ASUS cause that at least could read the DVD inside. That is where the TSSTCorp stopped responding. I put the drives back in the original rig and then only the ASUS is working. The Bios can see the drives like it did before I removed them to be used on the ASROCK motherboard. They both appear in the device manager and all are or seem to be installed properly. Only the ASUS can see the dvd/cd's that i put inside but the TSSTCorp doesn't. When i put a dvd/cd inside and go to the drive in my computer it says...please insert a disk into drive E:. I then used it for Autoplay dvd/cd's only and they used to read but then not anymore. Under command prompt it says device not ready. And in the device manager after putting a disk in it, go to properties then to volumes then i make sure that there is a disk in the drive then click on populate and it displays no media under status. I have tested this drive in 5 machines so far and the results are the same. I don't know what is wrong...maybe it's hardware related i just don't know. I thought i try here before i pay some hard earned cash for some company to fix it for me. I had Daemon tools in the machine and I thought it was the culprit and uninstalled it but to no help. Any advice would be appreciated.

It has worked well but does not work now no matter what I do. I have e-mailed their IT support and gotten no response after about a week. The CD/DVD burner works ok, since I can watch DVDs on laptop and burn DVDs using a different program. I have a two part question: What can I do to get the CyberLink Power2Go program to work again? It won't burn CDs no matter what I do, no matter how I try to burn them. It also will not rip sound, either. Is there another program that's free that I could download safely somewhere to enable me to burn CDs or isn't there some way to get Vista to burn CDs as well? If there is a way to use Vista to burn CDs, can you please give step-by-step instructions so I can try it? I'm still a newbie in most of these issues, so thanks for your time and input.
