Question DVD Writer - Writes, Can't Read Own Writing - Reads Others | Pls Assist!

Hi,

My DVD Writer is writing DVD's but not reading them either when I right click & 'Explore' or I double click the drive icon.

I get the message 'Please insert a disk into drive'.

I am able to copy the DVD from my DVD Rom but after writing, the DVD Writer does read it.

Desktop Model/ Make: Compaq SR1630IL | Intel P4, 3.06GHz
OS: Win XP Pro
DVD R/W Make/ Model: Samsung SH-W162

Pls assist in resolving the issue.

Uninstall the optical drive in Device manager. Windows will reinstall on reboot.
You can also try this:http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_d...cd_dvd_fix.htm

Tried the CD-DVD Fix & it worked!

Thanks Tyree ... but it has also deleted some other registry values.

Earlier I was able to use Load & Eject from the right click options. But now only Eject Option is available.

The option is no more for my DVD ROM also. Pls Assist.

Try uninstalling the drive in Device Manager. The Load option might reinstall on reboot.

Re: DVD Writer - Writes, Can't Read Own Writing - Reads Others | Pls Assist!

We are again back to ground zero. The writer is again not reading.

The tool has also deleted some registry values used for iTunes.

Yesterday, when I tried running iTunes, I got this message from iTunes Setup Assistant;

Quote:
Warning!

The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.
This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes.
Tried re-installing iTunes but still getting the above message.

Pls assist.

Solved the iTunes issues by downloading Gear Software drivers.

Reference Article: http://www.pcdoctor-guide.com/wordpress/?p=2726

But still unable to read the DVD's.

Hi Parry,

No, you should not use this fix. It is only intended to resolve an issue that causes the CD/DVD drive to disappear in Windows Explorer. You should use System Restore to roll your system back to a point before you used my fix, and restart troubleshooting from there.

Regards,
Doug Knox
