Blue Screen errors with DVD writers

Two days ago, I replaced my DVD-ROM drive with an LiteOn DVD burner. It seemed to install without any problems. When I tried to use Infrarecorder to burn an image file onto a disk, I had two BSOD errors. Also, the drive would only eject through Windows Explorer. Once a disk was inserted into the drive, the physical eject button on the drive would not work.

I returned to the store, and exchanged the LiteOn for an LG DVD writer. I attempted to use Infrarecorder with this drive, but had another BSOD. At this point, I figured that Infrarecorder was the culprit, so I uninstalled it.

I installed the Nero/LG Burning Tools software that was included with the new drive. This time, I was almost able to burn the image disk, except that it informed me it had an error trying to rename the disk. I thought perhaps I had used an invalid name, so I attempted to burn to another disk, using a different name. At that point, I had another BSOD.

Incidentally, the original DVD-ROM and the LiteOn burner were IDE devices and the LG is a SATA device. I will post the error message from the event viewer in the next post.

A few days ago, I started a thread about an earlier Blue Screen error. I don't know if it is connected, but it can be found here. My first BSOD

This one seems unrelated, although at the time I thought it was associated with the LiteOn drive.

Error code 1000008e: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316424

Uninstall Infrarecorder
Try burning something other than an Image.
What brand of media are you attempting to use?

Re: Blue Screen errors with DVD writers

Thanks. I should have gotten back to this thread earlier.

I did uninstall Infrarecorder, but also had the blue screen problem with the LG burning software. Since I used CCleaner to clean up old files and registry issues, I have been able to burn a few discs with the LG and Nero software, and with Active ISO Burner.

I have been using both HP DVD+R and Memorex CD-R.

No blue screen since I used CCleaner, but I don't know if that is what solved the problem.
