I can read discs and play games fine etc but the burning software does'nt detect it at all ![]() I have also swept the computer with Aviri Anti Virus - SuperAntiSpyware - Spybot - CCleaner - ComboFix - MGTools. So im extremely confident their is no mal, spy, scum ware etc whatever you prefer to call it ![]() I really need help here as the DVD is required for tommorow. |

Then the software is the culprit . . Try uninstalling all of them and see if Windows will burn a cd . . if it will, then install just one to see if it will burn the DVD

Re: DVD wont appear in burning software. Wedding Video EMERGENCY !
Well i tried, dragging and dropping files onto the DVD, various types such as .mp3, .jpg, .iso etc etc and tried making a new folder on it. All of which popped up with error "File System Error (16389)"
That was while using the Windows Program. |

Do you have a CD in the drive? What happens when you right flick on a file and select "Send to" . . CD drive?

yup dvd in the drive, completely empty tried various ones, and it says when trying the Send to option:
Problem Copying Windows encounterd a problem when trying to copy this file. What do you want Windows to do? Im then given the option of Retry and Cancel, retry produces the same error. |

XP will not burn to DVD . . only CD, but I don't think that is the problem. Do you have a XP installation cd?

Re: DVD wont appear in burning software. Wedding Video EMERGENCY !
You can run the System File Check program to restore any corrupted or deleted system files

Re: DVD wont appear in burning software. Wedding Video EMERGENCY !
Well after running the tool provided using the XP CD and rebooting.
I installed the free burn software Burn4Free to test for DVD writing and well it doesn't pick it up. That and the send to option still gives the error. |

Re: DVD wont appear in burning software. Wedding Video EMERGENCY !
Dang . . I wanted you to first try to burn a cd using XP . . that would have told us the hardware is ok.
Try making a folder anywhere on the desktop and see if you can copy a file to it

Re: DVD wont appear in burning software. Wedding Video EMERGENCY !
I suspect that installing and uninstlling all those burning programs has mess with the registry . .
How willing are you to do a cleam install?

Re: DVD wont appear in burning software. Wedding Video EMERGENCY !
You can try a system respore to the last date the DVD worked..
If that does not do the trick, You could try a repair install . . This is a good guide to performing a repair install http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Re: DVD wont appear in burning software. Wedding Video EMERGENCY !
Sounds like the system is highly compromised . . I would consider a clean install . . we can help with that
