external drive powering off when usb plugged in
Hello all, I hope you can help me! I have an iomega external usb hard drive and I'm having more than a few issues with it, it powers on no problem if it is NOT connected to my computer via usb however if I switch it on whilst the usb is plugged in or plug it in after it is switched on it shuts down, it works some of the time and also when it shuts down there is still power to it because if I remove the usb it recognises I've done so

Re: external drive powering off when usb plugged in
Most likely the internal circuitry of the enclosure is failing. You can remove the Hdd from the case and slave it to another PC to be certain the drive is good. That WILL Void the warranty. If the drive is good, you can purchase an external Hdd housing for it.
I prefer and use Apricorn brand external enclosures.
