acomdata 320gb HD no longer working.

I keep getting an I/O error when i plug in my hard drive. I have changed usb ports and changed the USB cable. Have tried turning it on before i plugged it in and after.

Im at a loss, i have alot of important files on this and can no longer get to any of them.

thanks
chris

What is the computer that it is attached to?
Have you tried replugging the connector into the port when the computer is fully loaded?

It looks like the conversion circuit inside the USB enclosure is toasted. There is only one way that I can think of that you can use your drive again. You would need to remove the casing around the drive and use it as an internal device.

Opening the case will void the warranty.
If you remove the drive from the enclosure, you can use a Hdd to USB adapter or slave the drive into another PC to retrieve the data.

Usually they don't give a hoot if you open it just as long as you don't bother them with the warranty. You probably will not need it anyway.

If the drive is functional and you want a new external enclosure, Apricorn brand is very good and they come with a version of Acronis.
