USB can be detected but cannot be accessed
Hi guys,
Ok, I hope somebody has a solution to my problem. I have a Flash Memory (Imation 8GB) and when I insert it, it is completely detected, its light is solid and not blinking, the pc shows its icon, but when I try to double click or right click then explore, I get the message "Please insert a disk in the drive". I have windows xp sp3. I've already tried to change the drive letter and it didn't work - still same thing, the drive shows, but no access. Please help. I need the information on the flash. I hope somebody answers soon. If you require anymore details, please let me know. Best regards in advance.

Re: USB can be detected but cannot be accessed
I have the exact same problem with my PNY 4gb USB2.0 flash drive. It worked just fine with my laptop last night (running Vista) but today the computer is telling me "please insert disk into drive E:"
So I tried it on my desktop (running XP) and got the exact same problem. Someone suggested changing the drive letter, so I did, but it did not resolve the issue. I am seeing some suggestions about formatting the flash drive but I'd like to do that as a last resort. If anyone can offer another solution please let me know. (Oh yeah, and both computers have up-to-date Windows service packs to they ought so have the right drivers for USB2.0). |

Re: USB can be detected but cannot be accessed
I believe that you will not be able to format. I have the same issue and I tried formatting then recovering the data after I have access to the files area. Formatting is not the last resort. Actually, it's something you wish for.
After you format, you will be able to run a file recovery service to retrieve the formatted files. Please format - if you can - and let me know if it works. If yes, then I will help you recover your documents if you help me to format :) If not, then we still have the same problem. |

Re: USB can be detected but cannot be accessed
So far I cannot format it. What a pain. The documents are backed up, at least, but it looks like I'll be returning the drive to the store (I just bought it last weekend).
If I get it to work I will let you know. Good luck with yours. |
