My book (Western digital HD) 1TB transfer rate - issue

Hi guys,

My new Western digital HD arrived today but I'm having an issue with it although I'm not sure if this is just a normal thing for such big external hard drive.

When I transfer a folder (with multiple files in it) from my C drive to my Western digital HD, the transfer rate fluctuates massively. It starts off normally and then goes down to 1byte/sec and then goes back up and then goes back down to 1byte/sec just before it starts transferring the next file in the folder. So basically, after transferring one file in the folder, it kind of pauses before transferring the next file..

I tried transferring the same files onto my Kingston 16gb memory and the transfer rate did not fluctuate at all so I don’t understand why this only happens on the Western digital HD.

I am not running any programs in the background or even doing anything both times. I am only using my Western digital HD as storage and it has been reformatted to NTFS.

It will be much appreciated if you can give me any comments or know why this happens? Many thanks in advance!
